Singer Throws No-Hitter!!!! 3rd straight
shutout
Wyandotte-Bill Singer, a year removed from what had better be a bidding war for his services among the NCABL elite, tossed the season's first No-Hitter in besting the Tyson's Corner Commuters, 3-0. Singer faced just 29 batters. The only 2 base runners were Ron Theobald on Frank Howard's 4th inning error and Hank Aaron on an 8th inning walk. Juan Marichal matched Singer on the scoreboard through 6, but the Camels broke through on Ed "Don't call me Bing" Crosby's 7th inning SF and run-scoring hits by Davis and Howard in the 8th. After the last batter, Ron Theobald, grounded out to Felix Millan, the crowd went into a frenzy, the team poured onto the field, and fireworks lit up the nighttime sky on the coast of Wyandotte.
The occurance of a no-hitter by a Grade D pitcher
is especially curious when you consider the Camel's last 27 hours.
They were swept by the Knarro Roadies yesterday, to no one's surprise.
The stunner came earlier today, however, when the Wyandotte Nine
were SWEPT by the expansion South Shore Navigators, allowing the
newcomers 27 runs on 51 hits in 4 games. In contrast, Singer's
"No-no" represented the THIRD consecutive shutout of
the Commuters by Wyandotte, the other 2 by Jim Perry and Bruce
Kison (editor's note-after the early edition went to press, the
Commuters pounded out 21 hits in Game 4 in winning a thrilling
10-8 10 inning victory). Singer (who is a 15X with 40 starts next
season...hint, hint) gets another shot at Tyson's Corner when
the Camels visit there in November as he is scheduled to start
Game 2 of that series.
